Plastica e combustibili fossili
Leonardo-IRTA si impegna pubblicamente in una campagna per incoraggiare l’Università di Pisa a diventare plastic-free, riducendo così il consumo di combustibili fossili.
Per le loro necessità quotidiane, studenti e personale di Unipi hanno a disposizione solo acqua in bottiglie di plastica. Queste possono essere acquistate presso i distributori automatici presenti in tutti gli edifici universitari, o in tutti i bar e negozi della zona universitaria, o nelle mense universitarie. Complessivamente nell’Università di Pisa si consumano 350.000 bottiglie d’acqua di plastica all’anno. L’impegno di Leonardo-IRTA è incoraggiare l’Università a diventare plastic-free attraverso l’installazione di fontanelli in ogni Dipartimento e a consegna di una borraccia riutilizzabile a ogni studente.
Le attività che Leonardo-IRTA sta implementando per sostenere il suo pledge nell’anno 2022 (gennaio-dicembre) sono:
PRIMO STEP: Incontro con i rappresentanti degli studenti all’interno delle Assemblee di Dipartimento e con i membri dei Collegi Accademici già attivi nella lotta al cambiamento climatico in tutti i Dipartimenti aderenti a Leonardo-IRTA, per illustrare il nostro obiettivo e chiedere il loro supporto attivo nei confronti del Rettore dell’Ateneo e il Senato Accademico, sottoscrivendo un documento condiviso.
AGGIORNAMENTO (14 agosto 2022): abbiamo incontrato i rappresentanti degli studenti che sono pienamente cooperativi e pronti a sostenere il nostro impegno. Abbiamo concordato un impegno comune per ridurre il consumo di bottiglie di plastica. Faremo pressioni sulle autorità universitarie per estendere l’installazione di fontanelli di acqua potabile in tutti i locali dell’università, e per la distribuzione di bottiglie termiche riutilizzabili a tutti gli studenti.
SECONDO STEP: Presentazione del documento ai Direttori e al Personale dei Dipartimenti chiedendone l’approvazione, invio alla stampa del documento approvato.
AGGIORNAMENTO: abbiamo incontrato tutti i direttori dei nostri dipartimenti associati e condiviso le nostre intenzioni, che sono state accolte con grande interesse. Poiché in autunno si terranno le elezioni per il rinnovo della carica di rettore dell’università, abbiamo presentato il nostro impegno e le nostre richieste a tutti i candidati alla carica. Renderemo pubbliche le loro risposte in modo che gli elettori conoscano la loro posizione sulle questioni climatiche.
TERZO STEP: Estensione dell’impegno. Incontro con Rettore e Pro-Rettori di Ateneo, e contestualmente coinvolgimento della stampa.
AGGIORNAMENTO: una delle principali collaboratrici di Leonardo-IRTA, la Prof.ssa Eleonora Sirsi (Dipartimento Legale di Unipi) sosterrà l’adozione di azioni per il divieto delle materie plastiche usa e getta all’interno della rete della RUS (Rete Italiana per le Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile ), estendendo così la nostra azione a livello nazionale.
Plastic and fossil fuel issues
We made a pledge to advocate and campaign to encourage the University of Pisa to become plastic-free, thereby reducing fossil fuel consumption.
For their daily needs, students and staff only have water in plastic bottles at their disposal. These can be bought at vending machines located in all the university buildings, or in all the bars and shops in the university area, or in the University canteens. On the whole, in the University of Pisa, 350.000 plastic bottles of water per year are consumed. The pledge of Leonardo-IRTA is to encourage the University to become plastic-free through the installation of drinking fountains in each Department, and by giving a reusable water flask to each student.
Activities Leonardo-IRTA is implementing to support advocacy work in year 2022 (January-December) are:
FIRST STEP: Meeting with student representatives inside the Department Assemblies and with members of the Academic Boards already active in fighting climate change in all Member Departments of Leonardo-IRTA, to illustrate our aim and ask for their active support towards the University Rector and the Academic Senate, subscribing a shared document.
FIRST STEP UPDATE (14 August 2022): We’ve met the student representatives who are fully cooperative and ready to support our pledge. We agreed on a common commitment to reduce the consumption of plastic bottles. We will pressure the university authorities to extend the installation of drinking water fountains in all the university premises, and for the distribution of reusable thermal bottles to all the students.
SECOND STEP: Presenting the document to the Departments Directors and Staff asking for their approval, sending the approved document to the press.
SECOND STEP UPDATE (14 August 2022): we have met all the directors of our member departments and shared our intentions, which they accepted with great interest. Since the elections for the renewal of the office of rector of the university will be held in Autumn, we submitted our pledge and requests to all the candidates to the office. We will make their answers public in order for voters to know their position on climate issues.
THIRD STEP: Extending the commitment, meeting the University Rector and Pro-Rectors, and at the same time involving the press.
UPDATE: one of the main collaborators of Leonardo-IRTA, Prof. Eleonora Sirsi (Law Department of Unipi) will advocate the adoption of actions for the ban of disposable plastic materials inside the network of RUS (Rete Italiana per le Università per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile), therefore extending our action nationwide.
Energia
Leonardo-IRTA si impegna pubblicamente in una campagna affinché l’Università di Pisa passi dall’acquisto di energia da fonti rinnovabili alla produzione diretta, installando pannelli fotovoltaici e tegole nelle coperture e nelle pertinenze degli edifici dell’Ateneo.
La sede di Leonardo-IRTA si trova in un edificio dell’Università di Pisa senza disposizioni in materia di energie rinnovabili. L’impegno di Leonardo-IRTA è incoraggiare i Dipartimenti Universitari convenzionati a passare all’energia solare con l’installazione di pannelli fotovoltaici o tegole sui loro tetti. L’installazione dei pannelli solari presso l’Università di Pisa è un compito molto difficile, per due motivi: La maggior parte degli edifici dell’Ateneo si trova all’interno del centro storico di Pisa, dove i regolamenti emanati dalla Soprintendenza ai Monumenti Storici tendono ad impedire qualsiasi modifica all’aspetto degli edifici.
Finora Rettorato e Amministrazione di Ateneo non sono stati interessati ad investire in pannelli fotovoltaici date le difficoltà sopra illustrate. L’unica azione intrapresa per essere sostenibili è stata quella di acquistare energia prodotta da fonti rinnovabili.
Le attività che Leonardo-IRTA sta implementando per sostenere il lavoro di advocacy nell’anno 2022 (gennaio-dicembre) sono le seguenti.
Leonardo-IRTA si impegna pubblicamente a dimostrare che la Soprintendenza ha già derogato alle proprie regole, dando testimonianza fotografica di un edificio storico (antico monastero) all’interno della cerchia urbana di Pisa dove sono ubicati altri edifici dell’Ateneo, che ha installato pannelli fotovoltaici sul tetto , apparentemente avendo ottenuto un’autorizzazione in tal senso, mentre in molti altri casi l’autorizzazione è stata negata dallo stesso Ufficio. Agiremo muovendoci su diversi fronti di azione, cercando di creare un movimento pulsante per raggiungere il Rettorato e l’amministrazione. Poiché il costo dell’energia è in rapido aumento in questi giorni e ci sono incentivi pubblici per passare alle energie rinnovabili, l’obiettivo sembra possibile raggiungere. Ci rivolgiamo potenzialmente a tutti i Dipartimenti dell’Ateneo, ma proporremo di iniziare con i Dipartimenti che sono membri del Leonardo-IRTA e i cui edifici sono ubicati fuori dal centro storico di Pisa: Dipartimento di Economia e Management, Dipartimento di Energia, Ingegneria dei Sistemi, del Territorio e delle Costruzioni, Centro Interdipartimentale di Ricerca in Scienze Agrarie e Ambientali.
PRIMO STEP: Incontro con Direttori di Dipartimento, Personale e Rappresentanti degli Studenti, per illustrare l’iniziativa all’interno dell’Università di Pisa al netto delle Università Sostenibili, e ottenere il loro sostegno.
AGGIORNAMENTO (14 agosto 2022): Su questo punto, oltre che per la questione plastica, abbiamo incontrato tutti i direttori dei nostri reparti associati e condiviso le nostre intenzioni, che hanno riscontrato grande motivazione e interesse.
SECONDO STEP: Far presentare le nostre istanze dai Direttori di Dipartimento e le Rappresentanze degli Studenti al Rettore e agli Organi amministrativi.
AGGIORNAMENTO: Siamo orgogliosi di annunciare di aver incontrato i vertici dell’Ateneo che hanno accettato di installare pannelli solari per la produzione di energia sul tetto di tutti i nuovi edifici dell’Ateneo. Per quanto riguarda le ulteriori azioni, poiché in autunno si terranno le elezioni per il rinnovo della carica di rettore dell’università, abbiamo presentato il nostro impegno e le nostre richieste a tutti i candidati alla carica. Nelle prossime settimane e mesi renderemo pubbliche le loro risposte in modo che gli elettori conoscano la loro posizione sulle questioni climatiche.
Energy
We made a pledge to advocate and campaign for the University of Pisa to shift from buying energy from renewable sources to directly producing it, by installing photovoltaic panels and tiles in University building roofs and appurtenances.
The headquarters of the Leonardo-IRTA are located in a building of the University of Pisa with no renewable energy provisions. The pledge of Leonardo-IRTA is to encourage the affiliated University Departments to shift to solar energy with the installation of photovoltaic panels or tiles on their roofs. The installation of solar panels at the University of Pisa is a very difficult task, for two reasons: The majority of the University buildings are located inside the historical centre of Pisa, where the regulations issued by the Superintendence to Historical Monuments tend to prevent any modification to the appearance of the buildings.
Up to now, the University Rectorate and Administration have not been interested in investing in photovoltaic panels giving the difficulties above illustrated. The only action taken to be sustainable was to buy energy produced from renewables.
Activities Leonardo-IRTA is implementing to support advocacy work in year 2022 (January-December) are:
We are working to demonstrate that the Superintendence has already made exceptions to its own rules, giving photographic evidence of an historical building (an ancient monastery) within the urban circle of Pisa where other University buildings are located, which has photovoltaic panels installed on its roof, apparently having got a permission to do so, whereas in many other cases the permission has been denied by the same Office.
We shall act moving from different fronts of actions, trying to create a button-up movement to reach the Rectorate and the administration. As the cost of energy is rapidly rising these days, and there are public incentives to shift to renewable energies, the target seems possible to reach.
We are potentially targeting all the Departments of the University, but we shall propose to start with the Departments which are members of the Leonardo-IRTA and whose buildings are located outside the historical centre of Pisa: Department of Economics and Management, Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering, Inter-Departmental Centre for Research in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
FIRST STEP: Meeting Department Directors, Staff and Student Representatives, to illustrate the initiative within the University of Pisa net of the Sustainable Universities, and obtaining their support.
FIRST STEP UPDATE (14 August 2022): On this point as well as for the plastic issue, we have met all the directors of our member departments and shared our intentions, that they met with great motivation and interest.
SECOND STEP: Department Directors and Student representatives presenting our requests to the Rector and administrative Bodies.
SECOND STEP UPDATE (14 August 2022): We are proud to announce that we have met the top management of the University and as a result they agreed to install solar panels for energy production on the roof of all the University’s new buildings. For further actions, since the elections for the renewal of the office of rector of the university will be held in Autumn, we submitted our pledge and requests to all the candidates to the office. IN the next weeks-months we will make their answers public in order for voters to know their position on climate issues.
Mobilità sostenibile
Leonardo-IRTA si impegna pubblicamente in una campagna per incoraggiare gli studenti e il personale dell’Università di Pisa a utilizzare le biciclette e/o i mezzi pubblici invece delle auto private.
In una precedente campagna, abbiamo incaricato il personale di Leonardo-IRTA di raggiungere il luogo di lavoro utilizzando i mezzi pubblici, la bicicletta o a piedi. L’impegno di Leonardo-IRTA è quello di incoraggiare tutti i suoi membri appartenenti a molti Dipartimenti universitari ad estendere questa pratica ad altri Dipartimenti del personale e agli studenti.
Le attività che Leonardo-IRTA sta implementando per sostenere il lavoro di advocacy nell’anno 2022 (gennaio-dicembre) sono:
Stimolare iniziative congiunte tra Pubblica Amministrazione e Amministrazione Universitaria per incoraggiare studenti e personale dell’Università di Pisa a utilizzare la bicicletta e/o il trasporto pubblico al posto dell’auto privata, offrendo abbonamenti a tariffa ridotta per personale e studenti per il trasporto pubblico e il bike sharing.
AGGIORNAMENTO (14 agosto 2022): l’azienda di trasporto pubblico locale ha recentemente cambiato proprietà, pertanto sono scadute tutte le convenzioni per la riduzione delle tariffe studenti e personale universitario in essere con la vecchia azienda. Leonardo-IRTA e i suoi membri stanno programmando un incontro con la nuova proprietà, Autolinee Toscane, verso un nuovo accordo che attui una politica di mobilità sostenibile più avanzata.
Sustainable mobility
We made a pledge to advocate and campaign to encourage students and staff of the University of Pisa to use bicycles and/or public transport instead of private cars.
In a former campaign, we engaged Leonardo-IRTA staff to reach their workplace using public transport or bicycle or by foot. The pledge of Leonardo-IRTA is to encourage all its members belonging to many University Departments to extend this practice to other staff Departments and to students.
Activities Leonardo-IRTA is implementing to support advocacy work in year 2022 (January-December) are:
Stimulating joint initiatives between public administration and University administration to encourage students and staff of the University of Pisa to use bicycles and/or public transport instead of private cars, by offering subscriptions at a reduced rates for staff and students for public transport and bike sharing.
UPDATE (14 August 2022): the local public transport company has recently changed ownership, and therefore all the agreements for reduced student and university staff fares that were in place with the old company have now expired. Leonardo-IRTA and its members are planning a meeting with the new owner, Autolinee Toscane, towards a new agreement that implements a more advanced sustainable mobility policy.
